Tone Alley

Tone Alley is a DIY Risograph printing endeavor run by Woodlin Latocki in Minneapolis, MN. Printing with a refurbished RISO SF5130 machine and six ink colors, this studio produces original work and now offers print services to the public.

The goal of this practice is to evoke a feeling of presence and quiet atmosphere through careful consideration of light, shadow, color layering, and texture.

This studio prints using an analog method – scanning artwork on the Riso’s copy top (like a photocopier) rather than sending files to the Riso digitally. This adds an additional element of human touch and process haze to the prints.

Tone Alley is named after an ambient sound file (tone_alley.wav) from the 2004 game Half Life 2 by Valve Corp.
