Tone Alley Press
Tone Alley is a small DIY Risograph printing endeavor in South Minneapolis. Producing original work and offering print services. Printing with a refurbished RISO SF5130 machine and six ink colors.
The RISO SF5130 has a maximum print area of 8.5 x 14”. The maximum paper size that can be fed is 11 x 17”. Tone Alley prints using the analog method – scanning the original artwork on the Riso’s copytop (like a photocopier) rather than sending files to the Riso digitally. This adds an additional element of human touch and process noise to the prints.
Riso printing is a process built for efficiency and economy rather than high fidelity and precision, so the prints will vary in appearance throughout the edition, with characteristic textural inconsistencies that are inherent to Risograph printing. No two Riso prints are the same.
